Pregnancy Resource Ministry

I’m writing to give you a “heads-up” on an exciting project that our Pregnancy Resource Ministry here at Focus on the Family is embarking upon.

Many of your centers already offer ultrasound services to your clients, so you’re aware of the impact it has.

Because we are always interested in helping pregnancy centers become ever-more professional, and because we want to help you in every way we can to spare women and their preborn children the pain of abortion, we have been taking an extensive look at the value of sonography in the pregnancy center setting.

This fall (2003) we conducted a phone survey that had some very interesting results—thanks so much to those of you who answered our questions!

Out of 334 randomly selected pregnancy resource centers that were polled, 30 percent presently have ultrasound capability. These centers reported that an average of 28 percent (and a median of 20 percent) of clients faced with a positive pregnancy test initially are abortion-minded.

However, the survey results also indicated that an average of 79 percent (and a median of 90 percent ) decide to carry their babies to term after viewing an ultrasound.

Given the sheer numbers of clients seen in PRCs each year, countless babies and women could very well be spared if more of these mothers had the benefit of an ultrasound. Our results also showed that 77 percent of the centers who do not currently have ultrasound capability are interested in adding it.

Our desire is to help make that happen! With the initial planning stages of this project already well underway, we anticipate being prepared to launch this endeavor sometime in 2004. You may begin to hear about it from friends, or volunteers, or supporters who have read about it in Dr. Dobson’s newsletter for January of 2004.

We wanted you to hear about it directly from us, so if some of those folks should mention it to you, you’ll know what they’re talking about!

As we define and refine the process of helping centers add ultrasound services, we will keep you updated via our Web site, www.heartlink.org.

Please check it regularly to learn the specifics of what this program will look like—what Focus on the Family will provide, what will be expected of you as a local participating center, etc.

Won’t you also join us in prayer as we seek the Lord’s plans on this critical issue? We want only to walk in perfect step with Him, to accomplish His will and purposes.
