Tolerant Parents
We prayed before we met with the client, “Lord, give us your words, let us be your voice. Let us be a vessel for You today. Prepare our client now as we lift her up. Prepare her to see the truth as she watches the ultrasound screen.” The girl we prayed for showed up with her mom. The mom seemed surprised about her daughter’s pregnancy; however, she was not condemning towards her. Even though the mom didn’t believe in abortion, she left the final decision to her daughter. This scenario reminded me of a recent experience I had with my own daughter. This wasn’t regarding an unplanned pregnancy. It did however, involve a poor choice made by my daughter. After much soul searching and crying out to God, I realized I had inadvertently bought into being “tolerant.” Under the guise of “finding the good” in everyone, I hesitated to speak boldly about my daughter’s bad decision. God used this situation as an illustration to me that, as parents, we cannot be lukewarm. Picturing Him spitting me out is unbearable. I was reminded that the mothers we see may need encouragement to steer their daughters to the truth. Mothers need to know that it is important for them to speak boldly in spite of how it may seem to sound. In reminding parents to speak “the truth in love”, we may save the life of two, including the life of their grandchild.
