So Glad You Called
"I think I better call her, she should have been here by now, and I was concerned about her when she was here two weeks ago."
While on the phone with her, "She is asking if she can come in now, can we work her into the schedule?"
"Sure" I answered. "Add her on at 11:00."
As 11:00 approached we discussed the double-booking scenario and whom we’d scan first. It was decided we would do whoever arrived first and let God handle that detail. After all, it was His scenario in the first place.
"Can I speak to you privately … before we do the ultrasound?" asked the young woman as she surveyed the waiting room.
"Sure, let’s head on back to the exam room," said the nurse as she led the add-on patient down the hall. The young woman was obviously anxious to share something that was on her mind.
"I’ve been to the abortion clinic" the young woman blurted out. "And I couldn’t do it — couldn’t get the abortion that is. I couldn’t even go in. It looked so dark and … I don't know, it made me uneasy just being outside. Just as I was sitting there looking at it, you called. I felt it was a divine intervention. Do you believe in such things?"
"I sure do" smiled the nurse, "in fact I hear of such things often in my job."
There is a lot to be said about follow through, a lot to be said about ultrasound as a tool, a lot to be said about divine intervention.
Smiles were all around the room, as the young woman, her boyfriend, the nurse and I watched the young life on the ultrasound monitor, each of us seeing the situation from his or her own perspective. God desires to reveal Himself and draw each one involved closer to Him.
