Hope Pregnancy Center of Brazos Valley, located in College Station Texas, is home to Texas A&M University and Blinn College. In 2005, with over 50,000 local students, only 16 women received an ultrasound at the center. Why?
"Even with an ultrasound machine," says Tracy Frank, Executive Director, "We were dependent on volunteer doctors who were only available 2 hours per week. We quickly learned if we could not offer the ultrasound during the first appointment, there would be no second chance."
Hope used the Option Ultrasound sonography training grant to train a full-time nurse, and in 2007 the nurse performed 413 ultrasounds, 455 scans in 2008, and as of mid-December 2009, 448 ultrasounds had been provided. Frank says they expect to exceed that number this year. Today, their peer counselors and medical staff know when a woman leaves Hope she has been given compassionate care, accurate information and quality medical services.
"The regional I.M.P.A.C.T. training was an unexpected bonus," adds Frank. "Not only was it provided by Focus on the Family at no charge to us, but it also focused on the very specific and unique needs of a pregnancy medical clinic. The materials from the training remain a valuable resource and sit within easy reach on the left side of my desk. Thank you Focus on the Family and may God continue to bless your ministry!"
