Effectual Boardmanship
Finally, a board whose leadership is relevant not only sees to it that the organization is viable and ethical, but also effectual. The mission of most non-profits is in the realm of cultural or individual change and authentic change is always incremental and of the heart. Effectiveness is often difficult to assess but imperative in order for the board to fulfill its legal "duty of obedience" and its biblical mandate to rule and subdue the organization to fruitfulness. The fundamental way of determining effectiveness is by measuring results in terms of accomplishing 90 day goals in the fulfillment of the overall strategic plan. The organization may never see the accomplishment of its mission, but it can make sure it is on the right road and making progress. Without a strategic plan and its break down to 90 day goals, all of which are culturally relevant, scripturally informed and Spirit-guided, the organization is destined to reactionism and randomness. Your responsibility as a board member is essential for the success of the non-profit, organization. In essence, as you <I>rule, subdue, and bring to fruitfulness your organization, you will train and enable others to do the same. It is simple in concept and yet difficult in practice. Boardmanship is a ministry and therefore a calling. Don't take it carelessly. God has created and engineered your gifts, talents, abilities, perspectives and experiences for the advantage of the non-profit you govern.
