Evaluating Staff
You can evaluate staff by looking at four areas. Look for trends in number of staff grievances, look for the rate of staff turnover, look for the ratio of staff to clients served and look at absenteeism among staff members.

Evaluating the Executive Director
Evaluating the Executive Director is one of the most important evaluations a board can make. The Executive Director needs to know how the board judges her performance.
Many times this is not always clear from meeting to meeting. This is why an annual performance review gives the ED an opportunity to know what the board’s priorities are and the goals they want to concentrate on in the next year.
Sometimes the board is so focused on what remains to be done that they forget to affirm the director for what she’s already accomplished.
Also, if the E.D.’s job performance is unfortunately not satisfactory, it is important to document the problems completely so that she knows exactly what needs to improve and what form that improvement would take.
