Community-Networking with Other Agencies
Pregnancy resource centers shouldn’t just look inward to their own programs, personnel and structure. They should also look outward to the community they serve. Looking inward causes a “club” mindset instead of a “community” ministry appearance. Keep in mind the community and those they serve are a source of clients as well as resources. There are many people in your community who are valuable assets to your pregnancy resource center ministry. They can provide both their time and funds for investing in the center’s work. The board’s responsibility is to see that the pregnancy resource center doesn’t become too “inward.” The center should not be perceived by the community as a “clique of people down there doing something, but we don’t know what.” Board members should make sure that the pregnancy resource center networks and collaborates with other social community agencies as well as churches. Generally, your community’s Chamber of Commerce will have a good listing of the organizations and churches with whom you might want to network.
