Using Your Newsletter in Community Relations
It is important that pregnancy centers use newsletters to communicate with their constituents. Before newsletters are mailed, they should always be looked at with several sets of eyes. When newsletters go out that are not properly reviewed and edited, they do more harm than good. Even as I write this article, I am making a mental note to pray and triple check that there is not one mistake. Even Focus on the Family makes mistakes. I remember the horror that came out of the periodicals department one Christmas when the Focus on the Family Magazine went out with the feature story titled “Away in a Manager.” If you are writing donor letters, newsletters, ad copy — anything, make sure at least five to eight people have reviewed it before it goes out. I know this sounds extreme, however even the most top-notch center newsletters are sometimes released with grammatical errors. While the mistake may seem insignificant, it will still hurt the message you are trying to convey. If you need help with your newsletter, perhaps an English teacher could volunteer his or her services. Editing your print material can be a way for a man to become involved in your ministry.
