Practices of Highly Effective Boards

Research shows there are three factors that are consistent for boards across some of the top effective organizations. In a study published in the American Review of Public Administration researchers attempted to uncover the secrets of how the Board of Directors impacts the effectiveness of the nonprofit organization.
A surprising finding was that a board with prestige did not have a significant correlation between effective and ineffective organizations.
In fact the research concluded the three factors that are consistent across the top organizations are:

The board participates in a regular self-evaluation, committing itself to continual improvements in its procedures and development.
The board has written expectations about giving and soliciting contributions.
The chief executive is actively involved in the board nominating process.

These practices are easily implemented regardless of the size or prestige of your current board and are critical first steps to creating an effective pregnancy center ministry.
