Donor Gifts and Advertising
Another consideration may be the implementation of an advertising policy regarding certain gifts. Of course, the center should honor any requests for anonymity that a donor may express. In addition, the board may determine that gifts from certain kinds of businesses may be accepted; however, the policy states that there will be no recognition in organizational publications. An example might be that a center would accept a donation from a political candidate, but will not put the candidate’s name in the banquet program. Forward-thinking boards anticipate what might happen and create the protections to guard the interests of the center. Your Executive Director will confidently handle the acceptance of gifts if you have created this organizational safeguard well in advance.
