Abortion is Big, Profitable Business

I'd like to share some information about Planned Parenthood that recently came across my desk. This is a STOPP International press release, released on April 15, 2002. STOPP International is a division of American Life League and is dedicated to fighting Planned Parenthood's anti-life agenda.

Washington, D.C. - "Abortion and contraception mean big business for Planned Parenthood," says Ed Szymkowiak, national director of STOPP International. "Planned Parenthood's entire business relies on sex education, which corrupts young minds and increases youth promiscuity," he said. "This in turn establishes a customer base of contraception users, and eventually abortion clients."

This month's issue of the Ryan Report, STOPP's International newsletter, contains detailed information about Planned Parenthood's business, including individual affiliate income and service reports, along with financial data for the last five reported years. Highlights of this special edition include the following:

Since 1977 Planned Parenthood has made $815 million from abortion procedures.
In 2000 alone, Planned Parenthood made over $68 million from abortion procedures.
Abortion procedures account for 29 percent of Planned Parenthood's clinic income.
For fiscal year ending June 30, 2001, 30 percent of Planned Parenthood's income came from U.S. taxpayers.
Planned Parenthood has made a profit each year for the past 15 years.
Planned Parenthood's yearly abortion numbers have increased each year since 1994.
Planned Parenthood's profits over the past 15 years total over $454 million.
In 2000, Planned Parenthood accounted for approximately 15 percent of all U.S. abortions.
Planned Parenthood has performed over 3 million abortions since 1977.
Planned Parenthood's yearly abortion rate increased 7.8 percent from 1999 to 2000.

Pregnancy resource centers everywhere should be encouraged to know they are modern "Davids" in a world of "Goliaths." While Planned Parenthood is about big business, pregnancy centers are about God's business — the business of changed hearts, changed lives and newborn babes. Somewhere in the mix, the God of the Universe provides.
