| Women Want Truth About Abortion
A recent survey found 95-percent of women want to know all the risks of an abortion before going through the process. Kayla Brandt had an abortion four years ago. She says the abortion clinic gave her as little information as possible. “There were no questions about why I was there, or why I made the decision I made and certainly there was no mention about any risks involved.” The clinic assured her she would soon feel relieved, but the next few years were filled with depression, guilt, and despair – emotional consequences the clinic failed to mention. “If some of those things would have been mentioned, whether it was physical risks or emotional risks, what it would have done is given me a chance to stop and think.” Brandt and the findings dispel the myth that women aren't interested in the risks that come from an abortion. Priscilla Coleman with Bowling-Green State University co-authored the study. “I think women are more vulnerable to anxiety and depression than men anyway, and so if there is anything that we are purposefully doing to ourselves, it would make sense to know what the possibilities are.” David Reardon with the Elliot Institute believes informed women are bringing down the number of abortions. “A lot of women are telling their sisters, their daughters, their friends. ‘I had an abortion and it was a bad choice.'” He says while some abortion clinics regard the emotional risks as minor, women don't see them that way.
