How Do Constituents Find Our Center's Web site?

Question: How can people find my Web site? Once again, the key to answering this question is knowing your target audience. Not just who they are, but how they consume media, what they read, who they talk to. You probably know the answer to the “how” question based on your PRC’s experience.

Donors do not just hang out online waiting for new Web sites to pop up. They attend church, participate in your “Walk for Life” events, volunteer, search for information online, and they (you fill in the blank for your group of clients or supporters).

Below is a condensed list of the communication outlets that people can use to find your site:

  • Online search engines - free and paid placement (keyword driven) advertising. A great example of this is Google Adwords (adwords.google.com).
  • Local/regional advertising in newsprint/magazines/brochures – make sure your URL is as prominent as your contact address.
  • URL links from other Web sites (Churches, other ministries) – Again, make sure your contact address includes the URL to your site.
  • Word of mouth – do you mention the Web site URL when you speak? Does your answering machine message include your Web sites URL?
  • Publicity generated via newspaper articles – Do articles/press releases you write include your Web site URL?
Using your Web site to reach existing and potential donors is an excellent way to keep a line of communication going with those who are onboard with the vision for your center.
