| Surprise Child
Finding out you are pregnant can be a joyous occasion, filled with happy tears, excitement and anticipation. But if the pregnancy is unplanned, the occasion can be far less joyous. Fear and dread can worm their way into your thoughts, while you ask, “How am I going to do this?” Leslie Leyland Fields, author of Surprise Child, experienced not just one but two unplanned pregnancies and each time she was overcome with challenging emotions and struggles. Fields takes readers through each month of pregnancy, detailing the cares and concerns that arise in a woman's heart when she pregnant with a surprise child. Personally acquainted with the fears and frustrations of unplanned pregnancy, Fields connects with readers on a genuine emotional level. She is not an expert and she never claims to be one. But rather, she uses her own experiences and the experiences of others, to guide would-be mothers on a journey from the confirmation of pregnancy to the delivery room to the days, weeks, and months following the birth of a new baby. Composed largely of personal stories, readers are provided a glimpse into the hearts and minds of women dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. And, they are reminded that in spite of doubts and questions, God has orchestrated their pregnancy, and while they didn't plan it, God did. Laura Sweat is an Intern in Focus on the Family's Internet department.
