Emily

Our story begins with a young woman named Emily, age 19, who felt that something different was going on with her body. She went to the local drugstore and purchased a home pregnancy test and much to her shock, it came up positive. This was not what she had planned for her future — her plan was to take a year off, work and save money for college.

Emily was engaged to be married, and when she shared the news with her fiancé, who was only 17, he told her he would support whatever decision she made. They went online to look for someone, someplace that could provide information on abortion. Their search sent them to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Gwinnett, 45 minutes away from where they lived, and Emily called to schedule an appointment to come in and talk to one of the trained client coordinators.

Once at the clinic, Emily took another pregnancy test to confirm the findings of the home test, and it was, in fact, positive. Based on Emily's report as to when her last menstrual period was, it appeared that she was most likely 9 weeks pregnant. During her counseling session, Emily heard facts that she was not aware of and had not even given thought to. She was also given the information she requested on abortion, including RU486, then she was offered a free ultrasound. Emily stated she was in a hurry and needed to go. A follow-up appointment was suggested, and Emily said, "I'll call."

But Emily didn't call. For three weeks, the nurse manager and the client coordinator continued to follow up and leave messages with her, but they never received a response. And so they waited, and continued to pray for Emily, her fiancé and their unborn child.

Emily was still undecided about what she wanted to do, but she finally shared the news with her mother, who asked her NOT to have the abortion and promised that she would help Emily raise the child. Her mother picked up the phone and called the Pregnancy Center to schedule an ultrasound for Emily.

Emily's baby was very active during the ultrasound and measured approximately 13 weeks old. Emily could not believe what she was seeing — this was a REAL baby! With excitement mixed with reservations about how she was going to support this new life, Emily had a change of heart as she met her baby for the first time. She took a video and the ultrasound pictures home to show her fiancé, and he told her that he did not think he could have gone to the abortion clinic. Emily wasn't sure she could have gone through with it either.

Baby Kinsey was born 3 months early, on June 28th 2008, weighing only 1 pound, 14 ounces and measuring a mere 14 inches long. Now, Emily says she believes everything happens for a reason. Her grandfather was dying and was able to see his great grandchild before he passed away. Kinsey stayed in the hospital for 9 weeks but did not have any complications. Thankfully, both mother and daughter are doing well!

Emily commented, "The Pregnancy Resource Center of Gwinnett changed my life. I never thought about all the things they told me. I received useful information and education about fetal development. I have NO regrets about my decision."

Emily visited The Pregnancy Resource Center of Gwinnett.
