At 16 months, Devon* already knows how to bend his little knees before attempting to throw his ball into the basketball hoop, and how to follow through so the ball will go into that hoop — nothin' but net! We know God has great plans for this young fellow! But Devon almost didn't make it this far in life.

His mom came to our pregnancy medical clinic in the late fall of 2006, very confused and uncertain about her future as a mother. Karla* had never been one to support the idea of abortion, but now that she was in the difficult circumstances of her own unplanned pregnancy, she felt that it might be the choice she would have to make.

Karla was 7 weeks pregnant when she came to Assurance and immediately sensed the support and love she needed. She knew we were there to help her, and she had heard that even if she did choose abortion, we would still be here for her, helping her cope with the aftermath. As she weighed her decision — wondering if she could live with herself if she had an abortion — her client advocate, Maureen, offered her an ultrasound. The rest of this story is best told in Karla's own words…

After seeing Devon's heart beating on that ultrasound screen it all became real. He deserved his shot at life, and it was very obvious that I had all the support I needed.

It is now two years later, and I have a beautiful baby boy! He is 16 months old and the love of my life! He is so intelligent and easy going. We have taught him sign language, so we can communicate with him way before he learns how to talk. I could go on and on about how wonderful he is! I couldn't be more blessed! I couldn't imagine my life without him!

I am really glad I decided to go to Assurance those years ago! Anytime I have needed anything, they have always been willing to help — they don't try to force anything on you or make you believe what they do. They are sincerely there to do what you need them to. I thank them for coming to work everyday and helping other girls and women that have been in my same predicament. Truly amazing people!
