About a year ago, I found out I was pregnant. I was confused about what I was going to do. I didn't believe in abortion, but I didn't see any way that I could have a baby. My boyfriend was incarcerated, and I had no contact with him. I didn't know how he was going to react.

I called my mom for advice, and she recommended that I get counseling before making this major decision. She suggested that I go to Hope Women's Center. Even though I didn't believe in abortion, I also knew I didn't have any money to afford having a baby. After speaking with my counselor at Hope, they offered to do an ultrasound to see how far along I was.

When they pointed out the baby's pulsing heart and the little head and spine that were already forming, I knew I could not have an abortion, even though I was in a very difficult situation. When I saw the ultrasound, I instantly decided to give life to my baby. Abortion was no longer an option for me. I was so glad that somebody was there to give me the encouragement and information that I needed to make the right choice.

My counselor talked to me about God and second chances, too. Sadly, the father of my baby is not involved, but giving birth to Donovan is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Because of the things I learned at Hope, I really have true hope for the future.
