| A Picture Worth a Thousand Words
Darcy came with her parents to the Life Choices pregnancy resource center in Memphis to confirm her suspicion that she was pregnant. Her parents were in favor of abortion, and Darcy legally needed their consent for her to have one. Her pregnancy test was positive so an ultrasound was offered and Darcy accepted. Then the most awesome miracle happened – as she gazed at the image on the screen, she realized that she was meeting her 19-week old preborn child for the first time, face-to-face. With tears, Darcy asked for her parents to join her in the ultrasound room, and in a heartbeat – their grandchild's heartbeat – the parents of this young woman understood that they were seeing their grandson, not "pregnancy tissue," not "products of conception," but their own flesh and blood. They were grandparents! On that day, in just a few moments, not only was the life of a little boy saved, but his mom and grandparents opened their eyes wide with wonder at the first of a lifetime full of photos that would capture the antics of an active little boy, and were spared a lifetime of regret and loss that would have resulted from a decision to abort. All Pregnancy Medical Clinics in the Option Ultrasound Program provide limited obstetrical ultrasound as medically indicated. Clinics are licensed to operate under the supervision of a physician, using only trained sonographers. Focus on the Family does not endorse the use of ultrasound outside of a medical clinic setting and does not endorse the use of ultrasound for non-medical reasons. Patient referrals are made to physicians for follow-up diagnosis and care as needed.
