Laurie called Birth Choice in Oklahoma City to make an appointment to confirm her pregnancy. She told the counselor that her boyfriend was adamant that she have an abortion and it seemed to Laurie that it was the best choice as well. She was 20 years old, already had a 2 year old, and she wanted to go back to school.

Because she was only 5 weeks along in her pregnancy, it was unlikely that an ultrasound would show the tiny heartbeat yet. But after talking with her, the counselor decided to refer Laurie for an ultrasound anyway, thinking that it would be beneficial for her to have one more opportunity to hear the same message of life from another person.

God spoke the message of life through the ultrasound itself. As the nurse zoomed in on the gestational sac, her baby's beating heart was crystal clear. As Laurie marveled at the miracle before her eyes, her outlook changed. When she left, her obstacles had not disappeared but her manner of dealing with them had. With the continuing support of the pregnancy resource clinic she will be able to choose life for her precious child.

All Pregnancy Medical Clinics in the Option Ultrasound Program provide limited obstetrical ultrasound as medically indicated. Clinics are licensed to operate under the supervision of a physician, using only trained sonographers. Focus on the Family does not endorse the use of ultrasound outside of a medical clinic setting and does not endorse the use of ultrasound for non-medical reasons. Patient referrals are made to physicians for follow-up diagnosis and care as needed.
