| "I Just Have to See!"
Reyna showed up at First Choice first thing on a Monday morning insisting that she could not wait until her scheduled ultrasound the next morning. She had to have it today. Unfortunately, the center had no ultrasound coverage that day. Reyna had been to the center two weeks prior, so the counselor wanted to find out if there was a problem. Was she having pain? Did she think she may have miscarried? Why did 24 hours matter so much to Reyna? Reyna simply said, "I just want to see. I just have to see the ultrasound." Pam, the client services director, told the counselor, "Bring her back and find out if she's got an appointment for an abortion. I'll make a couple of calls to see if we can get her in for an ultrasound somewhere today." Sure enough, Reyna did have an abortion scheduled for that day. She understood that approximately 1 of every 5 pregnancies ends in a natural miscarriage, and she really did not want to abort if it wasn't absolutely necessary. In fact, she had been to an abortion clinic on FOUR different occasions. During one of those visits, they gave her an ultrasound and told her she would be 12 weeks along on Tuesday. She had asked the abortion clinic to let her see the ultrasound but they refused. As the technician printed a picture, she immediately turned it upside down. Reyna asked to please see the picture, but again, was refused. Her most recent visit to the clinic had been this morning, before she came to First Choice. She had finally said to herself that this was it, today was the day, no more messing around. But when she got to the clinic that morning for her appointment, she discovered that the doctor had called in sick! Reyna had insisted on the abortion; so much so that the clinic called the doctor, and he spoke with Reyna on the phone. He told her that he could not do it today, and she would have to come back tomorrow. Abortion providers charge by gestational age, so the reason Reyna "needed" the abortion that day, and not the next, was to save some money -- because at 12 weeks, the price is higher. Understanding the urgency of Reyna's request to see an ultrasound of her baby, Pam called another pregnancy center, but they also couldn't scan that day. The baby's only chance was Pati, one of the center's ultrasound volunteers, but she had just come off a 48-hour weekend medical shift. When Pati answered the phone and heard the situation, her response was, "Tell her to give me thirty minutes and I will come right over and scan her." While she waited, Reyna spoke with one of our counselors and revealed that she had been praying God would show her what to do. It was starting to become clear to her that God had indeed heard her prayers and answered! The sonographer never knows what she'll see when she does a scan. What Pati did know is that Reyna just wanted was to see her baby for herself. And that, she did! This window into her womb showed her a darling little 14 week, 1 day old, bouncing, dancing baby. With that, and with God's confirmation to Reyna that He had heard every prayer and seen every tear, Reyna realized God would make a way to provide for both her and her baby. And this was, indeed, a gift from God to her! First Choice Pregnancy Services
