Building Relationships with the Medical Community

When First Choice Women’s Medical Center in Montgomery, Alabama converted to a medical clinic, they knew that their working relationship with local physicians would change. How could they ensure that these men and women would understand their intent and the impetus that would drive it? They decided to be pro-active in working through this transition and decided to take the initiative to reach out to the medical community.
IMPACT on Hope!

“I.M.P.A.C.T. was phenomenal! We haven’t stopped talking about it! I feel like as a ministry, we have a whole new lease on life. My only regret is that I didn’t have more board members there. The practical nature of the teaching, and the hands-on applications really set it apart from any other training I have ever participated in.”
The Heart of a Father

She was afraid to tell the counselor the truth, afraid to let her family know that she was pregnant, afraid of being pregnant, and afraid of having an abortion. Most of all, she was afraid that her boyfriend would leave her if she did not do as he asked. She did not want to hear anything of a spiritual nature. She just wanted to “get it over with.”
"I Had No Idea"

Anna was a leader in her church’s singles ministry. She was embarrassed and heartbroken that she had strayed from God and become pregnant out-of-wedlock, but she was adamant that “no one must ever know.” Abortion was the eraser that she planned to use to eradicate her sin.
Option Ultrasound – Not the End, It’s the Means!

The Executive Director of First Choice Women’s Medical Center writes, “Even if there were no machine to be given, what Focus has done for this ministry would be worth every effort we’ve put forth. I now see the picture clearly: The machine is simply the means for Focus to do a huge work in raising the bar in centers across the country. In my opinion, the machine is not the end; it’s the means!”
Triple Play

Elizabeth held in her hand a coupon for a free ultrasound that she’d received from Dr. Bo Machado in Charleston, South Carolina. She had visited his office and told him that she was determined to have an abortion. However, that free coupon led her to an unexpected discovery!
What an Impact

At the June 2007 I.M.P.A.C.T. Training in Orlando, 82 participants from 9 states, representing 50 sites, were asked at the end of the conference what they had learned that would impact their ministry and make them more effective in achieving their mission. Here’s a sampling of their responses.
I Remember Those Tears

A Day at the Park

Claudia was just out with her son to enjoy a day at the park when they had a surprise encounter with a young man who had a comment about her PRC T-shirt.
Almost Aborted

Serena was 14 years old and pregnant and her mother was adamant that she have an abortion, unswayed by the thought that this was her grandchild. But when they looked at an ultrasound, they could no longer even think of abortion.
God Uses Hiccups!

Seeing her baby clearly was the deciding factor in her choice not to abort.
More Than the Doctor Bargained For

When the Safe Harbor Women's Resource Center received their ultrasound machine, they were pleasantly surprised to find that valuable guidance and expertise accompanied it.
Early Signs of Life

Abortion seemed to be Laurie's only choice and she was not going to change her mind. It was technically too early to be able to see her baby's heartbeat, but the counselor hoped for a miracle and referred her for an ultrasound.
Hi Mom!

In the ultrasound room, Shelley's eyes remained tightly closed as the nurse proceeded with the scan to obtain measurements. When the nurse asked Shelley if she was seeing the baby move on the screen, she opened her eyes, and saw her baby "waving" at her.
One Day, Three Lives

The very first day they had their ultrasound machine, three women with tough life circumstances chose life for their babies - a meth addict, a lesbian, and a cancer patient.
Seeing is Believing

Emma's boyfriend was adamant about her getting an abortion, until he saw his child's ultrasound.
Will My Baby Feel Pain?

Shannon was pregnant through an act of rape, but an ultrasound helped her to bond with her little one.
With Her Own Eyes

Paige was sure the counselor at the pregnancy center was lying to her until she accepted the challenge to see for herself and prove the counselor wrong.
A Picture Worth a Thousand Words

Darcy and her parents thought her only option was abortion, until they saw their son, and grandson, on the ultrasound screen.
Priceless

A young mother of three went to the abortion clinic to abort her fourth child, but she didn't have the extra $150 for a required ultrasound. Then she saw a sign on the building next door that said "Free Ultrasounds."
Second Chance Baby

Janelle had a drug-induced abortion 7 weeks ago, but she still felt pregnant.
Face to Face

Amanda knew she wanted an abortion, but when she saw a 4-D ultrasound picture of her baby's peaceful face resting in trusting comfort within her womb, she could not stop looking, and her heart melted.
