We are called to be responsible to the Lord for what He has provided and entrusted to us. Our volunteers and donors are sacrificially giving their time and money. We are called to show them an example of good stewardship.

We are also called to be responsible to those in authority over us, this includes the IRS and state agencies. There are a couple of agencies, referenced in the following paragraphs that can assist your center in maintaining financial accountability.

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) establishes accounting regulations for all industries throughout our country. If your center's bylaws require an independent audit, you should follow FASB guidelines.

The Evangelical Joint Accounting Committee has published a book, entitled "Accounting and Financial Reporting Guide for Christian Ministries." It can assist your center in meeting the FASB guidelines. Call (800) 323-9473 for more information in obtaining the revised publication next year.

Your center can also become a member of The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). When you meet the criteria for membership with the ECFA, you will also be held accountable financially for your center by reporting to them on an annual basis.
